I played as left-back for my school handball team: Alia
Returning to the Mumbai Schools Sports Association (MSSA) ground at Azad Maidan after a decade was like a walk down memory lane for Student of the Year star Alia Bhatt. She was invited as chief guest for the prize distribution ceremony of the inter-school handball tournament on Saturday.
The 20-year-old actress was overjoyed to learn that her alma mater Jamnabai Narsee won the boys’ U-16 and girl’s U-12 crowns. “Jamnabai rocks. I am really proud of these guys,” said Alia, who represented her school in the sport.
“It’s amazing to step on this ground after 10 years. As a 11-year-old back then I remember playing as left-back for my school handball team.
This is the same place where we won the gold medal. While everybody in school was eager to join the football team, I took to handball as I felt it was a much tougher game.,” added the daughter of renowned film-maker Mahesh Bhatt.
Alia even recalled her practice sessions as a young handball player. “Watching Shah Rukh Khan in Chak De reminded me of how our then coach — Cyril D’Souza — would ensure we didn’t miss any of our practice session at 6am,” she signed off.
