England cricketer Monty Panesar tries to lure blonde American to hotel room
Apparently trying to put the humiliating defeat in the Melbourne Test behind him, England off-spinner Monty Panesar tried to tempt a blonde backpacker to his room at the team's hotel.
Controversies and England spinner Monty Panesar seem to go hand in hand. Panesar is now embroiled in a new controversy after an American backpacker claimed that the spinner tried to tempt her to his room at the team's hotel using phone dating app Tinder after England slumped to a humiliating defeat in Melbourne.
Panesar chatted with an American blonde in her late twenties four hours after bowling in England's Fourth Test in Melbourne, the Daily Mirror reports.
The 31-year-old cricketer, who is divorced, had asked Alison to meet him in his hotel apartment rather than a bar as England team's management had banned the players from heading out so they could reflect on their poor form.
The Mirror quoted Alison, as saying: “I thought it was a bit strange he would be behaving like that so soon after they had lost.
“I wanted to talk to him about cricket but he had no intentions of that. All he seemed interested in was getting me over to the hotel.”
Alison had spotted Panesar on Tinder after he uploaded a picture of himself batting against Australia.
She said: “I’d been to the Melbourne game, my first cricket match, the day before so I realised who he was.
“I sent a message because I wondered whether it was really him. I was shocked when it was.”
Panesar quickly responded. He told her he loved American girls and asked her what she was doing that night.
In a string of messages he asked her to come over to his room at the Como hotel and explained that he could not meet her at a bar because the players were banned from going out.
Alison, who wanted her surname withheld, said: “I would have met him in a public place but I was not going to meet him at his apartment by myself. You would hope people do not do that.”
She added Panesar is active every day on Tinder, The Sydney Morning Herald reports.
This is not the first time Panesar has been embroiled in a controversy.
In 2011, the court in UK had ordered the England cricketer to stay away from his wife after he was involved in a bitter brawl outside a pub. He subsequently went through a bitter divorce with his wife Gursharan Rattan.
Last year, Panesar came under the scanner again after being arrested and fined for urinating on a club bouncer in Brighton. He was subsequently sacked by his county Northamptonshire.
