To make sure you begin your long journey hassle-free, the staff at a food plaza of the station will serve your choice of food at your seat. All you have to do is call the food plaza and place an order. The food will be delivered within 5 to 10 minutes.
Pankaj Goel, partner, Re-Fresh Food Plaza said, "We will be providing our service to all commuters who board at CST. All we need from them is their berth and bogie number."
The outlet, which will be inaugurated by Central Railway general manager Soumya Raghvan today, will have a separate staff of five to six people just to deliver food to the coaches. The outlet will obviously have to follow the food standard issued by the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC).
R D Sharma, group general manager, IRCTC, said, "This is the first time in Mumbai that food will be served at the commuter's berth. It's a very good idea and commuters will benefit hugely, as there are many who do not want to eat from regular stalls or do not have time to buy food at the station."
At present, the food delivery service will be available only for long-distance train commuters, but there are plans to introduce it for local trains too in the next three months, said Goel.
Apart from food, this outlet will also have a secured Wi-Fi Internet connection.
