I share a certain equation with Anurag and Kalki: Huma Qureshi
The year has started on a wonderful note for Huma Qureshi.
The actress admits that the response to her recently released film has been thrilling to say the least. Right now, she is chilling out at home before she resumes work on her next film. CS chats with her about her family, success and her special friendship with filmmaker Anurag Kashyap. Excerpts from an interview.
Before the release of my film, I do get the jitters. But I am happy that I get those butterflies in the stomach as it means that I am not complacent and alert about my work. This sense of anxiety can be exciting as well. But after a film is released, it’s extremely fulfilling to get appreciated for your work. I am glad to hear that the film is receiving positive reviews. Our teamwork has paid off and that’s great news!
I was not at all insecure about sharing screen space with powerhouse performers like Madhuri Dixit, Naseeruddin Shah and Arshad Warsi. In fact, it was flattering and I would like to thank my director, Abhishek Chaubey for considering me to star alongside such accomplished actors. Surprisingly, I didn’t have to work hard to break the ice on the sets because they had all seen my work in Gangs of Wasseypur. There was a mutual respect for each other’s work. So, I did not suffer any insecurity or lack of confidence. They too pushed me to deliver my best. That was very encouraging for me.
Criticism is welcome
Luckily, I have never been criticised for my acting abilities. There has been no flak from critics, fans or people whatsoever. As far as the fashion police goes, then I haven’t really experimented with my look or costumes to get any untoward comments. I wear western clothes when an event demands it. Otherwise, people have loved me in Indian outfits and it is possible that I have repeated that look several times (laughs).
I was delighted when my mom came for the screening of my recent film. Infact, she predicted that this film would be one of the most memorable films of the year. Since, my brother (Saqib Saleem) and I live together, we normally discuss a lot of stuff. He tells me what he likes about my work and vice versa. My brother and I talk about everything under the sun. We are buddies.
Clearing the air
A lot has already been said about my friendship with Anurag Kashyap and Kalki Koechlin. I want to set the record straight once and for all. In
my life, I share a certain equation with both of them. I don’t think it has changed or will change in the future. Period. There is nothing more to say on this subject.
